Hyde travelled to Rivacre Park on the crest of a wave but were dramatically brought down to earth by the relegation favourites as the home side snatched a late goal after the Tigers had missed a succession of chances. It was a game the Tigers should have had won by half-time and they ultimately paid the penalty.
The first half was a continuation of the latter stages of the previous Monday’s game with Hyde dominating completely, having plenty of possession and looking like they would score with every attack. Matty Burke brought an excellent save out of James Coates on 24 minutes and then Nathan Arnold struck the woodwork twice in a minute. His first effort hit the post and rebounded to safety across goal and then from the resultant corner he clipped the bar with a header. Kevin Holsgrove also went close as it just seemed a matter of time before Hyde scored.
Vauxhall stepped up the pace after the break and Hyde had a warning on 57 minutes when David Mc Niven was forced to clear off the line. The flowing football of the first half had evaporated and the Tigers suddenly found themselves in a game. They had lost their earlier momentum and Joshua Wilson, who had twice gone close, scored the all important goal on 76 minutes when he shot home from the edge of the area.
Despite the introduction of three forwards, there was no way back for the Tigers this time and the game fizzled out and left Hyde rueing the earlier missed chances.
