It was an even and fairly chanceless first half with both teams cancelling each other out, the only really notable attempt was from the visitors with a Foley shot flying over the bar. The second half was where the game came alight, Hyde coming out with intent and looking to press more from the front. On 47 minutes it was nearly a first tigers goal from Altrincham loanee James Poole but his shot just edged wide of the post. The cold weather and lack of action made supporters restless until the 52nd minute when Hopley crashed into Lane inside the box, the referee awarding a penalty. Tom Pratt stepped up placing the ball to the left of the goal but Hall judged correctly to tip the ball out for a corner. The visitors, through injuries and suspensions, could only name a 14-man squad but battled bravely to almost earn a point. But, the goal finally came on 77 minutes when Pratt made a bursting run, passing the ball to Porritt who crossed from the by-line to the back post for Smalley to head in. |
