Two quick goals in succession, midway through the second half saw Hyde progress into the second qualifying round of the FA Cup. The tie was virtually settled with goals from Neil Tolson and Dale Johnson but not after a spirited performance from the North West Counties side. The Tigers were disappointing in the first half and did not really start playing until late on in the half when excellent deliveries from Steven Clegg and Jamie Milligan created chances for Dale Johnson and Matty McNeil. The Tigers were awarded a penalty just before half time when John Gaynor was adjudged to have been upended by Darren Blore. John O’Kane stepped up to take the kick, blasting the ball against the roof of the Walker Lane stand.

Half time substitute Neil Tolson broke the deadline on 67 minutes collected the ball from 30 yards out blasting the ball into the roof of the net giving keeper Robertson no chance. Dale Johnson increased the lead two minutes later when a cross from Neil Tolson was bundled home.

The Tigers could have made it 3-0 when Matty McNeil after a surging run saw his shot hit the underside of the bar. With five minutes of the game remaining Hyde were awarded another penalty when Dale Johnson was dragged back in the area. This time Jamie Milligan took over the penalty taking duties and made no mistake in firing low into the corner of the net, to see the Tigers progress into the next round.

O'Kane missed a penalty for Hyde
