The Tigers started without the fear that was in evidence on Saturday. Lloyd Richardson sent a long ball through for Band to chase, but Richard Williams beat him to the ball. Williams again dashed out for the ball on 19 minutes but Prince Moncrieffe knocked the ball past him and rolled it into an empty goal. Another long ball over the top had Williams running from his line again, this time Peter Band clattered into the Nuneaton goalie forcing him to be stretchered off. Kevin Shoemake replaced Williams and looked on with relief as Paddy Wilson ran diagonally into the penalty area but shot wide. The second half started with Lloyd Richardson shooting straight at Shoemake from 30 yards. Ian Muir played a superb ball to release O'Connor but his shot came back off the post and to safety. Jon Scargill then produced a long kick which bounced over the Nuneaton defence but Darren Washington hit his shot straight at Shoemake. Nuneaton's Man of the Match Gardiner then crossed for O'Connor who saw his shot just go past the post. As Nuneaton attacked, Hyde started to breakaway at the other end and as Neil Hall cut inside from the right, he hit a bending shot which Shoemake tipped round the post. In the dying seconds, Shoemake joined his forwards for a series of corners, the best resulting in a volley which Scargill did well to save.
