Match Details: Saturday 12th December 1998 Northern Premier League Premier Division
Attendance: 430 Hyde United: Jonathan Scargill Kojoe Taylor (Darren Washington) Richard Annan Gus Wilson Paul Taylor Tony Rodwell Prince Moncrieffe (Steve Haw) Neil Hall Simon Yeo Peter Band Don Page (Lloyd Richardson) Winsford United: Not available The game started with neither team really taking a grip although Peter Band had a shot saved at point blank range on ten minutes. Winsford settled and a cross from the left was headed wide and then ex-tiger Colin Lambert hit a shot wide from 25 yards. Don Page went close for Hyde but his shot was always going over. A quick free kick on 32 minutes sent Yeo away down the right and he crossed for Peter Band to score with a scissor kick low into the corner. Early in the second half, Paul Taylor headed behind from a Winsford free kick and then went close at the proper end when he headed wide. On 68 minutes, the Tigers doubled their lead when Simon Yeo took advantage of a slip by the goalkeeper to walk home his third goal in two games. Almost immediately, Prince Moncrieffe got behind the Winsford defence but fired wide when he should have scored. Steve Haw laid the ball to Yeo, whose fierce shot was spilled by the goalkeeper who had to rely on his defenders to clear up. In the final minutes, a long cross from the left by Yeo was met by Band who guided his half-volley just past the post. |
