Stalybridge Celtic: Not available

This Boxing day "derby" was spoilt by the weather, high winds and very strong rain meant that the ball didn't run as it should have. Celtic started the strongest and Sullivan hit the frame of the goal on eight minutes after running on to Powell's long ball. Richard Annan went close for Hyde, shooting over after some strong play from Paul Taylor. The Tigers took the lead on 27 minutes when Tony Rodwell crossed from the right for Simon Yeo to head home his fifth goal in four games. Richard Annan then steered a clearance past his own goalkeeper, but fortunately also past the post. From the resulting corner, Martin Filson headed just over. On 38 minutes, Brendan Burke's free-kick was superbly tipped round the post by Scargill as Stalybridge went in search of an equalizer. Early in the second half, Brendan Burke hit a shot over from 25 yards and then Prince Moncrieffe got behind the Celtic defence only to be thwarted by Statham. Moncrieffe then forced Statham to save again, this time low to his right, but the Celtic goalie seemed to trip Gus Wilson as he went for the loose ball, nothing was given. Peter Band then missed a glorious chance on 59 minutes, faced with just the goalkeeper to beat, he missed his kick and the chance was gone. Band & the rest of the Home side were then made to rue that chance as Paul France headed home a Burke Free-kick on 67 minutes to equalize. Hyde had most of the late pressure but didn't really test the Celtic back line as the conditions got worse. The attendance of 1357 was the largest at Hyde since the FA Trophy Semi Final against Northwich in April 1996 and the largest in the league for over 10 years!
