The Tigers arrived at The Barton Stadium dog track to find a pitch which resembled a long jump pit, although it was much better than Colwyn Bay. Lloyd Richardson's cross found Simon Yeo early on but his header looped over the crossbar. On 19 minutes Prince Moncrieffe collected the ball from Richardson before dribbling past three defenders and curling the ball into the corner of the goal with the outside of his boot. Scott Brenchley then had a shot saved after Moncrieffe had played him in. Winsford only threatened the Hyde goal occasionally during the first half and the back four held firm on each occasion. The Tigers increased their lead on 39 minutes when the ball dropped to Paul Taylor 35 yards from goal, basically he belted it and was as surprised as the rest of us to see it fly past John Bagnall and into the top corner. The second half was really a non event as Hyde were happy to settle for two and Winsford just couldn't create any chances. Brenchley almost scored his first goal for The Tigers but his volley hit the head of Simon Yeo and bounced to safety. Winsford's only real attempts on goal came when Talbot headed a cross over the bar and when Edgington recovered from a slip to save from Whittaker who was through on goal. The Tigers should have finished the game in style as Lloyd Richardson burst through the centre but the midfielder could not produce a finish to match his run.
