Tonight's game started in quite appalling conditions with the Ewen Fields pitch struggling to cope with the vast amounts of rain that had fallen throughout the day. Hyde started brightly and a clever Lloyd Richardson cross was cut out just as Band was ready to pounce. Scott Brenchley won the ball on the halfway line and surged forward to hit a 25 yard shot which the goalkeeper pushed away to Moncrieffe who again forced the Frickley keeper to save. The Frickley stopper was again one step ahead of Hyde when he tipped a Lloyd Richardson shot around the post. From the resulting corner on 26 minutes Paul Taylor rose to head home the Tigers first with Yeo ready to prod home any attempt to stop the header. Yeo then took on four defenders and wrongfooted the goalkeeper as his shot trickled past the post. Again the Frickley goalkeeper stopped the Hyde forwards, this time Prince Moncrieffe who hit a powerful shot from 20 yards which was well held. Frickley came out for the second half as a different team and were unlucky not to score when Edgington's punch went backwards but Band cleared off the line. Some bad feeling entered the game with three players being carried off and the referee called together the two managers Mike McKenzie & Ian Thompson to calm down the players, just after this Frickley almost equalized when Armstrong looped his shot just over the angle. A Moncrieffe cross from the right was met by Yeo who fired wide of the target from 10 yards. On 88 minutes Yeo went walkabout, taking on 3 defenders before losing control, Don Page picked up the loose ball and gave it back to Yeo who crossed for Prince Moncrieffe to slide home the second.
