Match Details: Monday 12th April 1999 Northern Premier League Premier Division
Attendance: 175 Emley: Not available A windswept Welfare Ground awaited the two teams this evening making conditions very difficult. Edgington made a good save from Thompson following an Emley corner early on. Featherstone raced away from the Hyde defence but pulled his shot wide of the goal. Dolby and Rodwell combined well for The Tigers and Rodwell's cross was met by Lloyd Richardson but he directed his header wide. After a good, tricky run by Annan, Dolby struck the crossbar with a twenty yard effort. Yeo's left wing cross was met by Rodwell who kept his shot low and forced a cracking save from Andy Rhodes in the Emley goal. Prince Moncrieffe had a close range shot blocked and from the resulting corner Simon Yeo again brought the best out of Rhodes. The Tigers took the lead after 50 minutes when Prince Moncrieffe headed home Dolby's corner. Hyde's inability to hold onto a lead cost them again this time they got caught by a classic breakaway goal, Dolby's corner was cut out, the ball was quickly played up the left and centered for Paul David to knock past the advancing Edgington on 55 minutes. Kurt Edgington then produced what can only be described as a "world class" flying save to deny Featherstone when he headed from no more than 4 yards, it was truly unbelievable. Yeo released Moncrieffe down the left and, after skipping past a defender he squared the ball into the middle but no-one was in the right position to finish. The Tigers were lucky when Featherstone, looking slightly offside, latched onto a long pass before delicately chipping Edgington only to see his effort come back off the post. Rhodes made another good save, this time it was Yeo who went close before Emley tried again with Featherstone producing yet more from Edgington as he pushed his shot round the post. |
