Hyde showed real character to come back from two down, securing a draw and a point against high flying Prescot Cables.

The opening 45 minutes was enjoyable, without either side really getting to grips with the conditioning or the ball. Prescot are a very good side, working together as a group who know how to play together and each one does their job very well. Their 7&11 were energetic, quick and determined causing the Hyde fullbacks problems throughout.

Prescot probably shaded the opening 45 with a clear shot at goal which hit the post, and a couple of decent breaks down the flanks which could have resulted in chances, if the final cross had been slightly better.

HT 0-0

Prescot were out early from the changing room and immediately looked more threatening. The No6 controlled the play with fantastic desire and energy in and out of possession, and most of the good things they did came through him. The play is simple. Get it forward down the channels, make cross over runs through midfield and have four or five available in every attack, recovering in to shape quickly once the ball is lost.

The opening goal for Prescot came from a quick regain in midfield, with the ball popped out to the No7 who played it into the feet of the excellent Lloyd Dean who took a touch, dropped his shoulder and fired home from 20 yards. 1-0 CABLES

Hyde then had a chance to draw level, with a ball well held up by Beadle and played into the path of Luke Porritt, who dragged his shot wide with power when the keeper was already committed to the dive.

Prescott then made it two, breaking from a Hyde free kick played towards their box, they won the ball and streamed forward, with four on three in the Hyde box, and a side foot finish past Crook. 2-0 CABLES

Most teams would have accepted it was not their day, and shut up shop, but Churchman replaced Big and Dom Marie, making his return to Prescot, replaced Brown and with this the game turned. The back four of Prescot now had two forwards with a physical presence to deal with and the Prescot No6, who was their best player up to this point found he was in a game. A ball clipped over the left centres head fell for Tom Pratt to run on to and hammer home from 12 yards to make it 2-1 and then Dominic Marie ran on to another pass from Churchman before taking a touch and riffling it into the far corner of the Prescott goal. 2-2

With the clock running down Marie had the chance to take all three points, when a ball over the heads of the Prescot back four fell to him running into the box, but he got caught in two minds and his left foot chip shot went straight to the keeper.
