Tom Pratt topped off a man of the match performance for Hyde United FC with a hat trick in appalling conditions at Ewen Fields. Our visiting guests from Greenfields Turf UK were pleased to see the benefits of their excellent surface allowing the game to continue in driving rain.

The first half was controlled by Hyde, but Brighouse enjoyed a few good moments, and could have taken the lead on 15 minutes with a curling 23 yard effort which was pushed round the post by an acrobatic Peter Crook.

Hyde took the lead with a well worked training ground routine for a corner with Harry Coates heading home unmarked at the back post. 1-0 Tigers.

Straight from the kick off Hyde made it two with a ball played through the middle for Tom Pratt to run on to, before calmly rounding the keeper and side footing home. 2-0 Tigers.

2 minutes later and Beadle headed home from a free kick played into the box, but the linesman flagged late, and incorrectly ruled him offside. He made matters worse 3 minutes later when he failed to flag for a tackle in the box on Tom Pratt where the Brighouse number 3 got none of the ball, bringing down Tom before hand balling to control the ball. Nothing given.

Hyde created several more half chances but failed to add to their goals.

HT 2-0 HYDE UNITED FC

During the half time break the wind and the rain picked up significantly in favour of the visitors and Hyde were braced for an onslaught. Brighouse were looking to score early, and the wind meant goal kicks were only making it 30 yards meaning plenty of pressure could be applied.

5 minutes into the half and Brighouse had their goal. Hyde failed to clear and brighouse managed to scramble the ball into the box where it was fired home. Hyde regrouped, with Paddy Miller and Harry Coates organising the back line to make sure they held firm and played out the period of pressure.

Luke Porritt was a fantastic out ball and his willingness to run at Brighouse began to relieve the pressure and force them back. Tom Pratt grabbed his second finishing off an excellent move, 3-1 Hyde, and completed his hat trick firing home from the spot after Luke Porritt was pulled down as he ran into the box. 4-1 Hyde United FC

Withe the clock running down, Luke Porritt finished the scoring off when he ran in to fire home following a half save from another Tom Pratt goal bound effort.

Second half subs were Tyrone Gay, Pete Boyle and Karl Jones who all contributed, and the Tigers were deserving 5-1 winners.
