The Tigers gave a debut to goalkeeper John Mohan and he soon proved his worth saving a stinging 18 yard drive from Ruffer after a poor clearance from a corner. Neil Critchley went close for Hyde as his inswinging free kick eluded everyone and bounced back off the post but generally the game was played in midfield with neither side dominating affairs. Hyde should have taken the lead early in the second half when Yeo's crossfield pass was knocked into the box by Banim and Rob Hulse volleyed over from six yards. Runcorn twice broke away but the first effort was well wide with just Mohan to beat and the second attempt was well blocked by the big keeper. Banim blasted Yeo's cross high and wide before the Tigers were denied a last minute penalty when Hulse seemed to be tripped from behind.
