Mark Cerealo shot Accrington into a ninth minute lead in this pointless cup game. He beat the Hyde defence with his run and shot past Bennett and in off the post. Accrington had a goal ruled out for a foul on Bennett before Peter Band equalised on 15 minutes, Yeo chipped the ball in from the left and the big man headed past Speare in the Stanley goal. Stanley went 2-1 up on 27 minutes when Cerealo slotted his second from close range after a right wing cross. Hulse then went close for the Tigers but he shot wide after Richardson cross played him in. A Walker ball from the left found Richardson in acres of space but he somehow shot over with just Speare to beat. John Coleman struck a post for Accrington early in the second half before Cerealo completed his hat-trick on 66 minutes when he slotted in after a mix up between Aspinall and Bennett. A goalmouth scramble saw Band's volley saved by Speare and Griffiths shoot just over from the edge of the penalty area. Accrington almost made it four in the last minute but Bennett made a great stop, tipping a 30 yard effort onto the crossbar.
