Hyde started brightly when Richardson's cross was met on the volley by Banim but the little man's effort hit the wrong side of the stanchion. Banim again had an opportunity when he turned in the box but his chip just floated over the top. Bamber Bridge took the lead on 12 minutes when Dave Carroll got down the left and slotted into the far corner. A run down the left by Griffiths and a one-two with Banim led to the ex Halifax man being clean through but Dootson blocked his effort in the goals. Carroll again got down the left for Bamber Bridge but this time Bennett easily saved at his near post. Bamber Bridge extended their lead in the 54th minute when Ian Vickers got free in the box and lashed home the second. A mix up in the Bamber Bridge penalty area saw Hyde go close as efforts from Yeo & Band were blocked but Brenchley's shot forced a great save from Dootson at point blank range. The next chance was when Gus Wilson gathered the ball 30 yards out and struck a thunderbolt which clipped the inside of the post but stayed out. Bamber almost scored a third when a cross from the left was headed down past Bennett but Scott Brenchley cleared off the goaline.
