Attendance: 170 Hyde United: Russell Saunders, Kyle Harrison, James Burke, Laurie Bell, Harry Coates, Paddy Miller, Oliver Ford (Pete Boyle), Janni Lipka, Ayrton Bevins (Ryan Ellison), Phattaraphol 'Big' Khamsuk (Sam Fitton), Jamal Branker. Subs not used: Lawrence Hunter, Danny Tavares. Altrincham: Deasy, Lynch, McWilliams, Moult, Cyrus, Brownhill, Newby, Jones, Evans, Lawrie, Clee. Subs:- Heathcote, Goodall, Patterson, Reeves, Taylor. Hyde weathered a first half storm against Altrincham to secure place in the Cheshire Cup semi final with a performance which underlines the development of the squad and the excellent work Darren Kelly and his staff have delivered for Hyde United. Hyde and Altrincham were both close to full strength with the respective managers only making two changes from the squads which played on Saturday. Hyde are on a decent run with only three losses in 18 games, and Altrincham were looking to gain some confidence from a win in the Cup. Hyde set up in a 4-2-3-1 with Aryton Bevins up front and Academy forward Oliver Ford making his full debut for the Tigers on the right wing. Laurence Bell returned to midfield along side the excellent Janni Lipka To say Altrincham are not having a good time at the moment would be an understatement, with a points total after 23 games in the league which is three less than the Tigers managed during our relegation season from the National League North. It was with this as a backdrop that they came to Hyde and fielded what was effectively a full strength side, hoping to gain a win and some positive momentum. They looked the more likely in the opening half, with good possession, a physical presence and pace up front. Hyde created two good early half chances on the break with Jamal Branker and Oliver Ford both testing the full backs of Altrincham for pace, but it was Altrincham who opened the scoring on 7 minutes when a good cross from the left was won in the air by Elliot Newby, who span off his man running into the box to collect the return pass and calmly slot home into the bottom left hand corner of Russ Saunders goal. 1-0 Altrincham. That would have been that for a pre Darren Kelly Hyde, but the Tigers are made of stern stough these days, and have experience, youthful optimism and leaders all over the pitch. Paddy Miller accepted the goal, calmly had a word with the back four and midfield and asked them to go again, which they did. Hyde immediately stepped up and matched the visitors, winning their individual battles and finishing the first half without conceding again. HT 1-0 ALTRINCHAM At half time Darren, Dave and Gaz asked the boys to do their jobs and to be brave. To play without fear. Hyde were in control from the start of the second half, and Altrincham could feel the change in momentum. It was clear to everyone in the ground that Altrincham are low on self belief. If any fans in the country know what that looks like it's Hyde fans. The back four of Kyle Harrison, Paddy Miller, Harry Coates and James Burke were strong, looking to stay solid and where possible play out from the back with quality. In Laurence Bell and Janni Lipka they have two of the best midfielders in the league, who look to offer options for them at all times, with pace on the wings and a bit of magic in the boots of Big Khamsuk. Hyde were now enjoying the Tigers share of possession, and creating chances as Altrincham dropped deeper. On 57 minutes Jamal Branker and Laurence Bell combined to force the ball through to Big Khamsuk, who ran into the box firing an excellent shot which was saved on the line, but he followed up to smash home the ball and equalise for the Tigers. 1-1 62 MINUTES and Pete Boyle replaced Oliver Ford on the right and made an almost immediate impact, picking up the ball on the half way line, cutting inside and firing a pass into the feet of Big before making a run in behind the Altrincham full back. Big lifted his head and slid the ball into Boyles path where he held of a challenge before firing home past the Altrincham keeper from 12 yards. 2-1 HYDE UNITED. On 75 minutes Sam Fitton replaced Aryton Bevins, who got some excellent pitch time as he continues his comeback from injury and on 80 minutes Ryan Elisson replaced the influential Big Khamsuk, who had run himself into the ground. Alrincham showed some fight in the final 10 minutes with Hyde dropping deep to try to see the game out, but the defence held firm and Altrincham spurned their only chance of the half when the ball fell to the feet of makeshift forward Same Heathcote, but he was unable to turn and hit the target with his shot.
