Match Details: Tuesday 6th December 2016 Northern Premier League First Division North
Attendance: 186 Hyde United: Russell Saunders, Kyle Harrison, James Burke, Harry Coates (Lewis Haydock), Adam M Jones, Sam Heathcote (Ayrton Bevins), Phattaraphol 'Big' Khamsuk, Matthew Dempsey, Andy Bishop, Pete Boyle (Jamal Branker), Daniel Pilkington. Subs not used: Joe Hardcastle, Sam Leadbetter. Brighouse Town: Taylor, Harris, Pearson, Pollard, Low, Atkinson, Bunch, Stockdill, Parkin, Morton, Dugdale. Subs: Osbourne, Ashforth, Illingworth, Haigh, Field. Sent Off: Pollard Hyde were excellent in the first half before the penalty and the Brighouse sending off and were frustrated against 10 men for large parts of the game. The coaching staff and management are aware of the problem. In the past three games Hyde have failed to score in games where they have clearly been the better side, drawing 0-0 twice and loosing to a deflected shot 1-0 at Lancaster. In the three games Prior to that we won away at Colne 2-1 and drew 2-2 & 3-3. The problem in these was defensive, meaning we couldn't win games because we couldn't hold on to leads, a point which frustrated many fans and questions were asked about the ability of the team to defend. The coaching staff have addressed this, working hard in training to make the squad more defensive, with players better understanding their position and working hard in defence when the opposition has the ball. This has clearly stopped the side conceding goals but it also means that we are deeper as a squad in defensive positions when we win the ball, and our forwards are more isolated waiting for support to arrive when the ball is played forward. We need to sort out the transition from defensive 'shape' to attacking 'shape' This will be worked on and the balance of the team and personal will be found to allow the goals to come again, built of a solid defensive foundation. It is not a unique problem, it is normal, and it is not a simple solution because it means identifying new players and bringing them in, but it is something that will happen. Anyway, back to the game. Hyde were dominant in the opening period, against a Brighouse side who are riding high in the table, and who won 2-0 against them in late September. Hyde created three or four decent chances, including a header from 3 yards which Pete Boyle really should have hit the target with. Their excellent football was rewarded with a penalty kick on 22 minutes when good approach play resulted in James Pollard fouling a Hyde player, and being sent off for picking up his second yellow card early in the game. Hyde should have deservedly gone 1-0 up but Andy Bishop fired wide from the Spot. Hyde continued to dominate, forcing a number of saves but were unable to get the ball in the net. HT: 0-0 Brighouse reorganised, setting up in a very defensive formation with an extra defender and a holding midfielder, and looked to hit Hyde on the break with their number 10 & 11 the outlet and everyone else behind the ball. Hyde continued to play good football, and really should have scored two or three in the final 15 minutes, where they completely dominated. The best chance falling to Pete Boyle who fired a hammer of a left foot shot goal wards from just outside the box, only to see it hit Big Khamsuk and deflect wide of the empty net. FT 0-0 Hyde are a decent squad who are playing some very good football in the defensive and midfield areas of the pitch. If they had won this game 5-0 no one at the ground would have been surprised, because that was the level of the overall performance. They are short of a bit of luck in front of goal, but this will come, and an early goal in a game will help them to push on and start to gain results and momentum. |
