Attendance: 309 Hyde United: Russell Saunders, Ryan Ellison (Janni Lipka), Kyle Brownhill, Harry Coates, Adam M Jones, Sam Heathcote, Phattaraphol 'Big' Khamsuk (Daniel Pilkington), Matthew Dempsey, Andy Bishop, Ayrton Bevins (Kelvin Jackson), Sam Fitton. Subs not used: Pete Boyle, Jamal Branker. Ossett Town: Overton, Mackie, Jackson, Ellam, Gay, Hawksworth, Yates, Ridley, Petereson, Frost, Curtis. Subs: Lucas, Henry, Riley, Farnhill, Terrell. With the heavy rain earlier in the day, the pitch was slick and perfect for a fast paced game, between two well matched sides, which is exactly what we got. Hyde set up in a 5-3-2. Burke was out for the first of two games following his sending off at Farsley, and Dave McGurk was injured, so Ryan Ellison came in at right back, and young Altrincham loanee Sam Heathcote stepped straight into the side at Centre Half the day after signing for the Tigers. Ossett are on a great run, which has seen them climb to 5th place, but it was Hyde who made the early running and created the best chances in the opening 30 minutes. Bevins and Bishop are starting to develop a good understanding, with Big Khamsuk and Sam Fitton working behind them either side of Matt Dempsey supporting from midfield. Big was not very well in the hour before kick off, but was desperate to play, and the Tigers were rewarded with a very good opening 30 minutes. The first clear chance for the tigers came on 10 minutes when Bevins ran onto a through ball, outpacing the full back, and cutting into the box on the left before firing across the face of Goal. Big then calved out a chance for himself, collecting the ball in the centre circle before driving forward, dropping his shoulder and firing a left foot shot inches wide. On 25 minutes Sam Fitton unleashed a fantastic right foot drive from 20 yards which looked in all the way, but the Ossett keeper managed to divert it over with a fingertip save. On 30 minutes a great ball delivered to the far post by Bishop was met by Ryan Elllsion running at full pace, but he was unable to keep his shot down. Harry Coates picked up a nasty head injury defending a cross, and had to leave the field to get some stitches. The Tigers could have been four up, but they fell behind when a swift move from Ossett resulted in a ball delivered at pace from the left wing, and it was met at the back post for a simple finish. Ossett then enjoyed a ten minute period of control up to the half time whistle HT 1-0 Ossett The second half started with Hyde again looking to get on the front foot, with pace and direct play down the flanks from the wingback, and some excellent forward play forced Ossett back. Big finally succumbed to his bug on 55 minutes and was replaced by Daniel Pilkington who had an immediate impact, making two or three powerful runs and forcing Ossett back. Ryan Ellison piked up the ball on the half way line, driving forward before playing the ball out to Sam Fitton who cut inside and delivered a great ball to the back post which was headed back across by Bishop before being fired home by Ayrton Bevins. 1-1 Hyde continued to have the better of the play, and were again rewarded when a ball into the Ossett box was half cleared before being picked up by the outstanding Andy Bishop, who looked up and curled a sublime left foot shot into the top corner from just outside the Ossett box 2-1 Hyde United The pace picked up again, and Ossett responded well, getting the ball forward more quickly and winning a number of dangerous free kicks. The Hyde defence had looked solid all game, marshalled by Adam Jones, with Sam Heathcote enjoying an excellent debut, and Harry Coates putting in his best performance since joining on loan, but they were undone when a long throw into the box was half cleared to Bevins just outside the Hyde box, and he had the ball nicked off his toe, with it prodded forwards and fired home from about 8 yards. The remaining 12 minutes were frantic, with both team looking to get the winner. Hyde had more of the ball, but neither team created a clear cut opportunity and the referee blew after 3 minutes of injury time. FT 2-2 This was a great advert for the quality in both teams, and shows that they should be challenging in the top half come the end of the season. Great debuts for Sam Heathcote who is an imposing figure at the back, Janni Lipka who came on for Ryan Ellison on 75 minutes looking strong and composed on the ball in the centre of the park, and for Kelvin Jackson who replaced Bevins for the final 10 showing glimpses of his pace on the left wing. |
