Hyde United’s instant response after going 1-0 down just after half-time saw them take away 1 point in an action packed half.

The game certainly livened up at Ewen Fields in the second half as the Tigers quickly fell behind just 10 minutes in, to a lethal Chris Almond finish in the box after a great run down the right hand side by max Hazeldine.

The goal sparked Hyde into life as the substitute Sam Fitton picked up the ball and unleashed a powerful strike from 30 yards out, Matrin Fearon got a hand to it but it wasn’t enough to keep the ball from riffling into the back of the net.

The match started at a slow pace from both sides, but Hyde had most of the possession and looked the more threatening in the opening stages of the game putting Skelmersdale on the back foot.

The early pressure from the Tigers found no real threat in front of goal, whilst Skelmersdale striker, Chris Almond showed great skill to glide past James Burke, the deflected shot fell to Woolcott, his attempt went wide 12 minutes into the game.

Despite the Tigers’ strikers not seeing much joy, Zeekell Parkes found his first bit of space 30 minutes in around 30 yards away from goal but the resulting shot went way wide of the untouched Skem goal.

Skelmersdale United broke the deadlock in the 57th minute, forcing Hyde to strike back. That’s when Sam Fitton levelled the up the score at Ewen Fields with only his 4th goal of the campaign.

The points could have gone to either team as both Hyde and Skelmersdale pushed hard to take the lead in the game.

Despite both teams pushing for the win, Hyde looked the more likely to snag all the points in the final 15 minutes of the game as Spencer breaks away from the away side’s defenders, the pass from Snodin pushed Spencer slightly wide but forced Fearon to make a great save as he slams his shot low and hard. The deflected save dropped to Ben Holmes, but he couldn’t hit the target.

Despite the numerous dangerous free-kicks for Hyde and relentless pressure, a worrying moment cropped up as Vincent Bailey goes down in the penalty area when Sam Vince rushed out for the ball, the referee decided it was not a foul.

The Tigers continued to push for the final 10 minutes but found no joy and walked away with 1 point.
