Match Details: Tuesday 19th January 2016 Cheshire Senior Cup 2nd Round
Attendance: 356 Chester: Forth Evans Heneghan (Sharps) Astles Waters Hewitt Hughes Chapell (Nugent) Rooney Lloyd Peers Subs Not Used: Worsnop Higgins George Sam Hughes scored twice as Chester FC eased past Hyde United 3-0 to reach the second round of the Cheshire Senior Cup. The Blues, who gave debuts to Ryan Astles and youth teamers Kieran Evans and Matty Waters, opened the scoring in the sixth minute. Jordan Chapell collected the ball from a short corner and fired over a cross that teenager Hughes headed past ex-Chester trialist Sam Vince in the Tigers goal. Reece Gray had a great chance to level soon after but Astles denied him with a fine block while Evans cleared a Luke Trimble header off the line. Vince saved well from John Rooney but the keeper could do nothing to prevent Steven Hewitt making it 2-0 to the Blues on 18 minutes as the ex-Burnley man nodded in Chapell's cross for his first goal for the club. Chester created further chances but had to make do with a two goal lead at the end of the first-half. Waters went close to marking his debut with a goal on 54 minutes but the Blues didn't have long to wait for a third goal. Hughes got it three minutes later and again Chapell was the provider as the midfielder showed his aerial strength to head beyond Vince. That secured the win for the Blues, who brought on youth team forward Oliver Nugent for his senior debut with 25 minutes to go. Nugent curled an effort wide not long after he had been introduced and that was the last serious attempt on goal as Chester relaxed in the closing stages. The Blues will host the winners of the tie between Warrington Town and Northwich Manchester Villa, who meet on January 26, in the next round. Report from Cheshire west and Chester News (Newslocker) |
