Match Details: Tuesday 12th November 2013 Conference Premier
Attendance: 1037 FC Halifax Town: Glennon Pearson Roberts Lowe Maynard McManus Ainge Marshall Gardner (Worthington) Gregory Ironside (Wilson) Substitutes Not Used: Senior McReady Love by Luke Edwards Hyde were beaten but certainly showed some fight in West Yorkshire on Tuesday night. The resilient Tigers dominated possession for large periods of the game but a late flurry of Halifax goals flattered the hosts, after Hyde failed to take advantage of their dominance. Hyde fell behind after just six minutes of the match, when a long throw in caught out Hyde keeper Lawrence Vigouroux, who was beaten to the ball by the strong head of the Shaymen’s Lois Maynard. But from there, Scott McNiven’s men didn’t bow down and accept defeat, the bounced straight back and began to frustrate their opponents. The midfield four retained possession like a team at the top of the table and continually put the ball into the final third of the pitch, only for Louis Almond and Scott Spencer to come agonisingly close. After half an hour, Spencer thought he had brought Hyde level, but his header was agonisingly cleared off the line. Halifax smashed the outside of the post from one effort, but Hyde used the shock factor to play good, attacking football and dominate the first half. And Hyde continued their pressure after the break. As the home crowd got restless, the Tigers pushed forward. Spencer played a perfect ball across the six yard box but neither Almond nor Reece Gray could get close enough to prod home. With 20 minutes left to play, a powerful effort from Almond was deflected wide with Halifax keeper Matt Glennon beaten, and from the resulting corner, Brizell struck a thunderbolt which stung the fingertips of Glennon. But with Hyde pushing, Halifax countered. Paul Marshall broke down the right wing with Hyde exposed at the back, and Marshall smartly squared to Lee Gregory who tapped into an empty net to double the host’s lead. Just two minutes later, it was three. Josh Wilson’s long range snapshot caught out Vigouroux, who reached but was just too far away, as the 25-yard effort squeezed inside the far post. With the game gone, Brizell was dismissed for the second time this campaign when he gave away a penalty for a studs up, lunging challenge on Halifax’s Wilson. The referee showed the red card whilst tripping over Wilson, who was curled up in a ball on the ground, much to the dismay of Brizell. Gregory sent Vigouroux the wrong way from the spot to round off a seemingly resounding victory for Halifax, however the possession stats should state otherwise. |
