Hyde fell into the bottom 4 for the first time since November as they fell to defeat at Gateshead. Their wretched record of 1 win in 2013 continued in a game which flattered the Tynesiders. The Tigers started the game in the worst possible fashion when they went behind in the 4 th minute when James Brown headed home Josh Gillies cross. This kicked Hyde into life and they for the rest of the half they were the better side and Matty Blinkhorn just failed to connect with a Scott Spencer cross, they looked to have equalised soon after when Luke Ashworth headed towards goal but Adam Bartlett pulled off a world class save and then saved Alex Brown’s follow up with his legs before Liam Tomsett shot was brilliantly blocked by Ben Clark. As the end of the first half approached Gateshead’s James Marwood weaved into his way into the area but Ashworth brilliantly blocked.

Hyde started the 2nd half well and should have equalised when the ball found Blinkhorn all alone in the 6 yard box but he shot straight at Bartlett. This proved to be a pivotal moment in the game as this fired Gateshead up and James Brown was lucky to stay on the pitch after being involved in 2 separate scuffles, he was replaced by Liam Hatch and his first contribution was to win a penalty when Josh Brizell was harshly adjudged to have handballed when he slipped and fell on the ball, Ryan Donaldson converted blasting the ball home despite David Carnell’s best efforts. As Hyde pushed forward Gateshead got a 3rd on the counter attack when Ben Everson finished well clipping the ball over Carnell to leave Hyde with a tough run until the end of the season.

Played at Croft Park, Blyth
