A Louis Briscoe goal moments into the second half were enough to give Mansfield a 1-0 victory at Ewen Fields.

It was a frenetic opening, with both sides trying to break forward and hit an early opener.

Matthew Green and Colin Daniel linked up in the first minute before the latter saw his shot blocked, before Louis Almond and Alex Brown combined but a last ditch challenge denied the new man.

On five minutes the best of the opening exchanges fell to the visitors, but they failed to capitalise.

Lee Beevers did well to play in the lively Briscoe, however, he sliced his shot across the box and Green closing in at the back post couldn’t make any contact.

Just three minutes later Green was again denied; this time he broke through two challenges before shooting from the edge of the box with Dilo saving well.

After Murray lashed over to disappointingly end another well worked move by the visitors, Almond nipped in to set up a counter but a bad to pass to McCartan ended it.

A further two half chances fell to the away side before Hyde almost took the lead in the 28th minute.

Scott Spencer set McCartan off down the left, with Briscoe fouling and going into the Referee’s book as a result.

Chris Sedgwick lofted it in, but after a flick from a Mansfield head Spencer just couldn’t get there.

From here on in the visitors saw out the half on top, and should’ve taken the lead late on.

Green set up Lee Stevenson on 29 minutes but his shot was straight at Dilo who held, before Daniel missed the chance of the half.

Receiving a great pass swung into the box he had the goal gaping, but he could only shoot across Dilo and wide of the far post.

It was only seconds after the re-start that the games only goal was struck.

It came from Briscoe who’s ball into the box, be it a cross or shot, had the beating of Dilo.

Immediately following this Green had another effort that was just wide and Briscoe hit the bar with a dipping header.

Hyde’s first foray forward came after some good play from the two Spencer’s.

Scott and Grant combining on the right, but when the former got a sight of goal he could only lash over left footed.

Following another break forward by Green that was saved again, the hosts had their best chances to salvage a point in the 76th minute.

It again came from good work between the Spencer’s, with Grant this time skipping free into the box.

His ball into Jevons required the slightest of contacts, but under pressure from the defence he couldn’t oblige.

From here on in Mansfield had a further two chances that weren’t taken, while Hyde, try as they might, couldn’t get the goal that would bring them back to level terms.
