Subs not used: Tunji Moses, Matthew Cassidy. Sent off: Adam Griffin. It was another case of what might have been for Hyde as they somehow lost a game they had dominated for long periods Another bad refereeing decision cost the Tigers as captain Adam Griffin was harshly shown a second yellow card and the game swung in the home side’s favour, which even Dartford manager Tony Burman admitted they didn’t deserve to have won. You wouldn’t have known which side was on the fringes of the play-offs and which side was rock bottom as Hyde dominated the first half, playing some superb football at times, After an even opening few minutes, the Tigers took control and Marcus Bettinelli in the home goal tipped a Scott Spencer free-kick around the post and then produced an even better save to keep out David Poole’s swerving shot. It was only a matter of time before the Tigers took the lead as Spencer robbed Dartford captain Tom Champion in midfield and charged into the area before squaring for Alex Brown who, without breaking stride, curled a lovely effort into the top corner. Hyde had further chances through Liam Tomsett and Callum Byrne but both failed to hit the target. The home side came out after the break on the front foot but despite having a lot of the ball the Tigers were defending comfortably with Ben Dennis in particular superbly marshalling the defence on his debut and leaving David Carnell with little to do. In fact it was Hyde who could have further ahead after Bettinelli could only flap at Spencer’s cross and substitute Ryan Crowther’s shot was brilliantly cleared off the line by Richard Rose. The home side introduced Harry Crawford up front and he had the chance to level from the penalty spot, after Ben Dennis had harshly been punished for colliding with Jacob Erskine, but Carnell saved to keep the lead intact. Then the game’s changing moment came when Griffin, who had already been booked, received a second booking for handball despite the ball hitting him in the chest. It was just 5 minutes from the end when Crawford managed to outjump 2 defenders and the ball looped over Carnell and in. The home side claimed the winner as the clock ticked onto 90 minutes as a foul throw from Mark Arber went unpunished. From the cross Carnell couldn’t quite gather and despite the ball being blocked it was Rose who scored a superb chip from 25 yards. Even with 10 men Hyde continued to push but nearly got hit on the break as subs Noble and Harris both had chances to extend the lead, the latter being denied by a superb save from Carnell. |
