A comical last minute goal saw The Tigers progress to the semi-finals of the Cheshire Senior Cup here at the Drill Field. Although Northwich fielded a weakened side due to their F.A. Cup clash with Bury on Saturday, it was the home side that looked impressive early on and they deservedly went ahead on 23 minutes thanks to Lee Poland's 20 yard drive. Further efforts from the Vics caused Hyde some concern but Dave Hanson was unlucky at the other end when he headed wide from ten yards out. The second half saw a role reversal with Hyde getting on top and playing the better football. Hyde won a free kick on 57 minutes about 25 yards out, Neil Hall played a quick ball to the unmarked Jody Banim whose cheeky chip caught Malcolm Rigby just off his line and Hyde were level. Rigby made amends with good saves from Stuart Walker and Matty Taylor as Hyde went on for a winner. When it came it was like something from Laurel & Hardy, a long ball forward two minutes into stoppage time should have been bread and butter for Northwich, the ball was traveling towards the goal area and the nearest Hyde player was 15 yards away, suddenly the centre half left it for the goalkeeper and vice-versa, the ball bounced past both and Steve Tobin couldn't miss an open goal from six yards.
