Hyde FC: David Carnell, Josh Brizell, Adam Griffin, Andrew Pearson, Gianluca Havern, David Birch, Chris Worsley, Reece Gray (David Poole), Danny Broadbent (Godwin Abadaki), Scott Spencer, Ryan Crowther (Danny Hall). Subs not used: Tunji Moses, Callum Byrne. Report by Jamie McNamee After a successful Easter period, Hyde faced a difficult test as they had to make the 165 mile trip to face already relegated Blyth. But in the end, title challengers Hyde came away with all 3 points in a very scrappy but resilient 1 – 0 victory. Hyde started off the first half well and it only took 6 minutes for the visitors to take the lead. Hyde were awarded a free kick as Daniel Broadbent was hauled back on the right-hand touchline by Blyth’s Joe Kendrick. The resulting free-kick was whipped in by Adam Griffin towards the back post where Hyde defender Andrew Pearson rose above the Blyth defence to neatly head home into the bottom left hand corner of the net, leaving the Blyth ‘keeper, Robert Birdsall, no chance. After the goal the game became a very scrappy affair with Hyde conceding several free-kicks inside their own half. Blyth then could have equalised as target man Carl Jones missed an open net as a Blyth set-piece was whipped into the 6-yard area and the aforementioned Jones missed an open net as, to the despair of the home support, he headed over the bar. As the half approached its conclusion Blyth pushed Hyde back by continuously firing balls into the box, but these were easily dealt with by the back 4 andDavid Carnell. The second half saw much of the same. Blyth hit the cross bar from a corner, and this was the only real chance in the half until about 20 minutes left when Hyde saw a Scott Spencer shot cleared of the line. Hyde boss Gary Lowe brought on defender Danny Hall for Ryan Crowther to counteract the deep ball which was the only real threat Blyth possessed. Towards the end of the game there was a goalmouth scramble in which somehow Gianluca Havern hit the post and Andrew Pearson could not convert the rebound as he proceeded to fall on the ball after losing his footing at a critical time. Hyde saw out the remaining minutes of the game to give the visitors a much-needed win after a Guiseley victory, leaving only 2 games remaining in the season and Hyde still 2 points clear atop of the table. |
