The Tigers just about came through this tricky FA Cup tie although the home team deserve much credit after giving victory a good go. Hyde went close early on twice through Steve Tobin. John Foster kept the scores level when he cleared on the goal-line from Denney's header. Jody Banim hooked a shot wide for the Tigers and Graham Bennett did well to stop a near post flick from Stewart. Hyde went in front on 45 minutes when SIMON YEO converted from close range following McDonald's low cross from the right. The lead increased four minutes after the break when Yeo was brought down and PAUL TAYLOR slammed home the resulting penalty kick. Jody Banim had a great chance to finish the game off but shot wide with just Clitheroe 'keeper Richens to beat. On 55 minutes Paul Taylor fouled Clitheroe captain Barry Hart and he got up to take the penalty kick. He crashed his effort against the crossbar but had a stroke of luck when the referee ordered a retake. It didn't turn out to be lucky after all when Graham Bennett saved his second effort! Clitheroe piled on the pressure for much of the second half but it was Hyde who almost scored their third when Yeo brought a great save out of Richens to deny his goalbound shot. Clitheroe scored on 84 minutes when a 30 yard shot from JASON JONES dipped wickedly before bouncing beyond Bennett's grasp but the home side couldn't find the equaliser which they needed.
