Report by Luke Edwards

Hyde secured their Blue Square Bet North status with a victory at Corby. It was a fully deserved victory in a game, which the Tigers won more comfortably than the score line suggests.

Hyde arrived for the final game at the Rockingham Triangle unbeaten under the joint stewardship of Scott McNiven and Steve Halford, against a team who had nothing to play for. In a swirling wind and on a hard bouncy pitch the first half was a none event until 5 minutes before half time when Steve Diggin got down the left and Mark Lees powered a bullet header into his own net past Russell Saunders.

Hyde responded immediately to this set back and equalised through Steve Halford after Corby goalkeeper Lee Windrum had flapped at a corner.

Hyde dominated the 2nd half and within the first few minutes had a chance when but Matty Burke’s shot crashed off the post with Windrum beaten. Jake Simpson then showed a nice piece of skill to get in on goal but Windrum saved his shot.

Then the goal that kept Hyde up a lovely move involving Simpson and David McNiven down the right and his cross was met by Andy Smart who’s shot was cleared off the line before McNiven blasted home the rebound to start the celebrations, especially with news that Stafford were losing at Bower Fold.

The game petered out after that and Hyde held on easily to spark jubilant scenes amongst players and fans.
