Attendance: 254 Alfreton Town: Not available Hyde FC: Russell Saunders, Dean Stott, Andrew Smart, Steve Halford (Chris Rimmer), Scott McNiven (Neil Tolson), Chris Lynch, Mark Lees, Marcus Calvert (Ben Morris), Scott Mooney, Shaun Whalley, Tom Manship. Subs not used: Dale Johnson. Hyde arrived at the Impact Arena to find the pitch in perfect condition but large mounds of snow everywhere as a reminder of the recent Arctic weather. The Tigers were without Michael Taylor and Lee Rick who were unavailable, but further hampered by a sickness bug which affected a number of the players. Scott Mc Niven and Russell Saunders both started and clearly shouldn’t have done, whilst Dale Johnson, although named as a substitute was unable to come on. Both sides hadn’t played for almost a month and it showed in the early play, but Hyde settled the better and went close through Scott Mooney but disaster struck just before the break. Anthony Howell looked well offside but was allowed to play on and he crossed for Matt Wilson to score at the near post. Seconds later Steve Halford suffered a large gash on his eye and whilst off the field, Alfreton grabbed a second two minutes into injury time. The ball looked well out of play before Laurie Wilson side footed home after hesitancy in the Hyde defence and that basically sealed the game. Halford bravely returned after the break but now Hyde had too much to do, but despite this they continued to battle valiantly in adversity and Shaun Whalley struck the cross bar before Paul Clayton clinched Alfreton’s third in injury time as Hyde started to flag.. Overall it was another disappointing Cup exit for the Tigers but given the circumstances, they could not have done more on the night. |
