However it was nothing less than the visitors deserved after they pushed Hyde all the way at a very wet Ewen Fields. The visitors had a dream start when Ian Fitzpatrick scored with just a minute gone when Hyde lost possession and he ran through to score. However their joy was short-lived as Nathan Arnold equalised on nine minutes direct from free kick. Both sides had chances to score before Nathan D’Laryea put Hyde ahead on 36 minutes. The Tigers failed to capitalise and allowed Salford back into the game in the second period. The home side rode their luck until four minutes from time when substitute Martyn Andrews hammered home an equaliser. Hyde had been troubled throughout by the long kicks of Salford ‘keeper Andy Robertson and after a defensive mix-up failed to clear and Andrews pounced to take full advantage. Both teams have to try again on Saturday and it will be Salford who will be the most confident after this impressive display and perhaps ruing the fact they didn’t complete the job first time around if they had showed more composure in front of goal.
