Congleton Town: Not available

This was very much after the Lord Mayor’s Show for the Tigers as they fell at the first hurdle in the Unibond Cheshire Senior Cup against opposition from three leagues lower.

It has to be said that Hyde were without six regular starters through injury, but there was still enough talent on show to secure a victory. Already lacking firepower upfront, things got worse for the Tigers when Chris Simm limped off after 40 minutes with a groin strain.

By then Hyde were already a goal down to an excellent strike by Ryan Greene. The defence had plenty of opportunities to clear the ball before Greene lashed the ball home from twenty yards to give Craig Dootson no chance.

Hyde had numerous chances early on but failed to take advantage and once behind never really looked like breaking down a well organised Congleton defence.

Two cup matches played and two defeats does not augur well for Saturday’s trip to Whitley Bay in the FA Cup, but hopefully the management team of Neil Tolson and Chris Brass will by then have more options available on team selection.
