Match Details: Monday 30th November 1998 Northern Premier League Premier Division
Attendance: 424 Hyde United: Jonathan Scargill Matty Taylor Richard Annan Gus Wilson Paul Taylor Tony Rodwell Prince Moncrieffe Neil Hall Padi Wilson Darren Washington (Peter Band) Don Page Subs not used: Jason Hardy Lloyd Richardson Runcorn: Not available Hyde started brightly, taking the lead on 9 minutes when a Tony Rodwell cross was headed in off the post by Don Page. Runcorn then had an effort deflected past the post but Hyde went two up on 15 minutes when Prince Moncrieffe sprung back to his feet and clipped the ball over Mark Morris. The match had few chances and those that came were generally from long range such as when Ruffer rattled the crossbar with Scargill beaten. From a free-kick on the right, Runcorn should have scored but a looping header just cleared the goal. Tony Rodwell hit a shot from 25 yards that had Morris looking worryingly at his post, but it flew the wrong side. Jon Scargill then made a good save when he held a 40 yard shot falling backwards. Chances were even harder to come by in the second half, but a Hyde corner taken by Richard Annan almost caught out Morris at his near post. Scargill then dropped a cross but Matt Taylor was there to hook off the line. Scargill almost gifted Runcorn a goal when he went walkabout and missed the ball near the corner flag but Watson clipped the crossbar from a tight angle. |
