Darlington opened up the scoring with a fantastic side footed strike from Lee Gaskill which looped over Wilczynski’s head from 20 yards out. Before conceding the first goal, the Tigers started with a hold on the game, winning the first corner and showing good link up play between Spencer and Birch, but the strike from the midfielder was high and wide. Shortly after the second-half interval in the 52nd minute, the Quakers increased their lead after a disastrous header back to Wilczynski from Harris left an open net for Gaskill to grab his second of the game. Hyde struggled to make any clear cut chances, but a penalty appeal was turned down after Darlington’s centre-half, Gary Brown, looked to make contact with Scott Spencer in the box. Darlington found their third goal of the game on the 68 minute mark from the penalty spot after David Birch was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area, but did not receive a caution. The mood was lightened in the 73rd minute, when Harris’ shot was deflected, leaving little chance for Peter Jameson to make the save. Although the Tigers managed to get back into the match, little came after that. A dangerous free-kick from Hyde 20 yards out was the final chance, but blasted at the wall from Lee Neville in the dying embers of the match. |
