Match Details: Saturday 14th February 2015 Conference North
Attendance: 3041 Stockport County: Hurst Fagbola (Todd) Duxbury Moses Lees O'Halloran Woolfe (Lofthouse) Glover Dennis Sharp (Spencer) Churchman Subs not used: Baker Ormson Hyde, who controlled the opening twenty minutes, could not create any real goal scoring opportunities and it was County, who should have taken the lead through Danny Glover in the thirty-second minute, but he somehow managed to put his header just the wrong side of the post from eight yards out. Then a moment to forget for full back Kyle Brownhill, as his poor attempt of a chest back to the keeper allowed County striker Kristian Dennis the simple task of slotting the ball past Ed Wilcynski in the Hyde goal in the thirty-sixth minute. Dennis nearly got his second of the game a couple of minutes later, he dispossessed Perry NG twenty yards from goal, but he could not keep his shot down as it flew over the bar. With three minutes of the first half still to play, Nathan Woolfe cleverly flicked the ball over George Riley’s head and from the left side of the area tried his luck, but unfortunately for the winger his shot was straight at Wilcynski. Then on the stroke of half time, a neat turn from young striker Pete Boyle on the edge of the area owed himself to get a shot at goal at somehow Danny Hurst flew across the goal, to deny the youngster a second goal in as many games. As the game restarted for the second half, County immediately went on the attack, and from the left wing. Nathan Woolfe picked out the unmarked Danny Glover in the area, and he headed past Wilcynski to give the home side a 2-0 lead. Hyde tried to hit back after Ben Holmes flicked the ball between two County defenders, but the goalkeeper dealt with his cross into the box easily. Woolfe who was becoming a menace down County’s left side proved he was also good at set pieces. From a free kick on the left wing, he once again picked out Glover, however this time the strikers header cannoned against the crossbar and out for a goal kick. With just over twenty minutes of the game still to play, the Tigers although two goals down, were still in the game and if it was not for another fantastic stop from Hurst. Hyde would have pulled a goal back. Connor Hughes cut inside from the left wing slalomed past three County players and as he reached the edge of the box his shot didn’t have enough power to beat the keeper, but his save then allowed Luke Giverin to have a go at goal. He sliced his shot straight to Boyle and somehow Hurst denied the striker as he saved on the line. County tried to kill off the game in the final fifteen minutes with efforts from Dennis and Glover both going close, Hyde continued to try and get themselves back into the game, but shots from both Hughes and later on Giverin failed to hit the target. In the final minute of stoppage, time ex Hyde striker Scott Spencer thought Captain Josh Brizell brought him down in the box but referee Joe Johnson agreed that Brizell got the ball and Spencer took a dive. Subsequently booking Spencer for simulation. |
