Hyde, playing in their yellow & black away kit were slow to start and a miss-timed shot rattled Jonathan Scargill's post early in the game. Prince Moncrieffe then hit a shot wide of the Colwyn Bay goal. Defensive mistakes then proved costly for The Tigers as on 16 minutes Deniol Graham beat his marker and fired in a low shot to Scargill's right. The Seagulls then quickly doubled their lead on 21 minutes when Graham fed Craig Lawton who rounded Scargill and finished from an acute angle. Don Page headed wide from a corner as Hyde tried to get back into the game, but Graham should have made it three for Colwyn Bay when he shot straight at Scargill when faced one on one.Tony Rodwell replaced Chris Dolby at half-time and had not touched the ball when Prince Moncrieffe burst down the left and squared for Darren Washington to fire home on 46 minutes. The Tigers now seemed to be playing with a bit more pride and Washington was unlucky when his glancing header bounced the wrong side of the post. Colwyn Bay's attacking were now becoming more infrequent as Rodwell began to add his experience to the Hyde midfield. A backpass was chased through by Peter Band making Bay goalkeeper Richie Roberts slice the ball Straight to Prince Moncrieffe who shot into an empty goal from 25 yards. (58 minutes). Colwyn Bay then attacked resulting in Scargill bravely claiming a cross at the feet of Graham. Hyde were unfortunate when Don Page crossed from the right and Washington blasted over from five yards. Minutes later Roberts fumbled a cross, but the ball rolled away from his goal.
