In a thrilling encounter at Church Lane the Tigers lost in extra-time a game they should really have had comfortably in the bag. Leading with just five minutes of normal time left they conceded a soft goal when they failed to clear and to make matters worse Chris Lynch was then sent off for a reckless tackle.

The home side dominated extra-time with the additional man and scored at the beginning of each half. Brian Mathews notched the first and then Carlos Meakin headed home the rebound after substitute Craig Dootson had made a tremendous save from his volley.

New Mills started the game strongly and hit the woodwork twice in the first half, both times after excellent saves from Elliot Bernstein. Hyde took the lead when Karl Munroe slotted home after the home side failed to clear a corner on 15 minutes.

Hyde had plenty of chances to increase their lead and probably should have had a penalty of 29 minutes when Chris Simm was brought down. They were made to pay for their misses when Garry Kharas equalised immediately after the break.

However Hyde regained the lead on 60 minutes when on loan defender Matty Bunting headed Lynch’s cross shot into his own net. Bernstein was then injured in a 50/50 challenge and was replaced by Dootson with fifteen minutes remaining.

The Tigers looked like they would hold out for a hard-earned victory until Mickey Ryan scored with five minutes left. Once the game went into extra time and New Mills had grabbed the lead, there was only going to be one winner as they made the extra man count in the heavy conditions.

Own Goal scored by Matty Bunting who was on loan at New Mills from Hyde!!
